Backside works. is an artist who has not revealed his real name, gender, or age, as well as his face. However, through many hints in the work, we know that he is from Fukuoka, Japan.
There are two skateboarding techniques, Backside and Frontside, and the artist wrote his name as Backside works. because he loves skateboarding and his specialty is Backside technique.
What does the artist want to tell us through the anonymity? During an interview with the artist, the artist answered, in a mixed joking answer, that about not being in front of the public, the artist did not see itself in the looks.
The artist may think that the audience who sees the work is the main character, and may depict a pretty girl named Heroin (the female protagonist in novels and movies) who creates the story together with this audience, and may pursue the happiness in daily life that Heroin and the audience try to experience together by depicting the ordinary lives of these characters in a calm and unaffected manner.
Naturally influenced by Japanese otaku and street culture, the techniques used include painting, silkscreening, pen drawings, spray painting, and other materials with elements of Japanese anime, manga, graffiti art, and other forms of art.
Backside works. has also collaborated with a number of brands, including Levi’s, CONVERSE, and Weekly Shonen Jump.
