SH GALLERY is pleased to present a solo exhibition of Niimi Hiroki.
Niimi has always been about “consumption of creativity,” picking up discarded creative objects (cartoons, commercials, trash thrown away on the streets) and reconstructing them into something that will remain.
In this solo exhibition, Niimi will present a series of works that cut out scenes he has seen and which are like comic strips from his life.
The new BOX series, which expresses a rebellion against creative consumption by transforming fixtures that cannot play the leading role into works of art, will also be presented this time.

Hiroki Niimi, a Japanese artist, often revives creativity by transforming discarded visual images into paintings. His work challenges the modern economic system that treats creativity merely as a tool for profit. Hiroki Niimiii focuses on creativity used in marketing and the fate of creative works once they’re no longer useful.
His process involves collecting and reassembling images from manga, magazines, and ads that have been cast aside. This approach mirrors Merz painting, where found materials are repurposed creatively. Niimi’s art captures a respectful, simulacrist-like demeanor, though he doesn’t imitate past art styles mechanically. Instead, he explores the emotional narratives of today’s creative cycles—where works are created, consumed, and discarded.
Before becoming an artist, Niimi worked extensively in advertising. His art reflects the feelings of creators whose work is overused and undervalued in commercial contexts. While his art sometimes echoes street or pop art styles, it’s more about using these influences to critique the commercialization of creativity. Niimi believes today’s creators are often constrained by the demand for measurable results, stifling individual creativity.
Ultimately, Hiroki Niimi’s paintings lament the decline of creativity in a world driven by economic imperatives. He aims to provoke thought about how society values and discards creativity in both real and digital realms.
